Pumps for liquid transfer are an essential element in your cellar. In order to prevent any nasty surprises during your peak work times, simple but accurate maintenance should be performed.
In this short video we will show you the 9 key points to keeping your piston pump running at full efficiency:
- Check the oil level using the sight glass.
- Open the valve box: the gasket must be clean and undamaged.
- Check each valve: verify that the surface is intact and shake it to check if the steel core is firmly connected to the outside of rubber.
- Check the valve seats: they must be smooth and without harshness; check that there are no foreign objects in the manifold under the lower valves (this could cause a reduction in the flow rate).
- The stuffing box avoids pumped liquid leaking between the piston rod and the cylinder. The seal is made of a teflon-coated rope: if you see leaking liquid you need to tighten the ring nut. If the problem persists, it’s time to replace the teflon-coated rope.
- Check that the drive belt is tight. Increase the tension by adjusting the screw.
- Check the flow rate of your pump: if it is not performing it means that, most likely, the piston gaskets are worn and must be replaced
- Check the status of the flow inverter: bring the lever to the center and check that the valve is intact. If this seal is not in good condition you could have a remarkable decrease in performance.
- Finally, you can lubricate the wheels in order to make moving the pump easier.
